Inez de Brauw (NL) wanted to break open the flat surface of her paintings and bring her work into the three-dimensional realm. Accustomed to the directness and speed of painting, the slow process of working in ceramics was a great challenge for (the impatient) de Brauw. Several pieces broke, for example, because they were taken out of the mold too early. As a fellow resident comfortingly told her: \u201cCeramics takes a strong heart\u201d. And as de Brauw herself says: \u201cCeramics is tolerating; I never knew what I would get.\u201d<\/p>\n
In these breaks, a friendly relationship with the clay eventually developed, in which Inez found the balance between a planned and spontaneous way of working.
