Yoon Seok-hyeon (KR) searched for a sustainable alternative to toxic glazes in ceramics. Glazed ceramics are generally not recyclable and usually end up in landfills. In his search Yoon Seok-Hyeon came across an ancient technique from his native country, \u2018Ott\u2019, a wood resin from the lacquer tree. This traditional Korean technique has been used for 2000 years on wooden utensils and is known for its high quality. Objects treated with Ott, become antibacterial, and water- and insect-repellent. Yoon applied the technique (also called \u2018Ottchil\u2019) to ceramics. The resin of the lacquer tree dries in the air and does not need to be fired.
