Daniel Giles made multiple ceramic pieces for his project inspired by the Baker House \u2014 a residence designed for Josephine Baker in 1927 by modernist architect Adolph Loos. The four-story Paris mansion Loos envisioned was to have a bold marble fa\u00e7ade in horizontal black-and-white stripes, and a central pool that would allow people to watch the famous dancer, singer, and actress swim. It was never built. As part of his research, Giles visited various archives, as well as buildings designed by Loos and homes that Baker did live in, like the Ch\u00e2teau des Milandes. The results of this investigation will be presented in a large installation that references both Loos and Baker. At EKWC, Giles created large ceramic beads and architectural ornaments. He also made two sets of tiles, one with a reflective platinum lustre, and one with a wonderful copper saturation glaze.
