Sarah van Sonsbeeck (NL) lets coincidence play an important part in her work. When working on a mold, van Sonsbeeck noticed the lumps of left-over clay piling up beside the work, which reminded her of chewing gum. The Dutch saying, “Speech is silver, silence is golden”, led her to start researching why silence or gold would be “good”. Van Sonsbeeck used gold luster on large panes of glass, firing the work in a gas kiln. Which is uncommon in the glass field.
