Mingxuan Tan

With a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, artist Mingxuan Tan (CH) moved to Norway to pursue an MA degree of ceramics in Art and Craft department of Oslo National Academy of the Arts. At EKWC, she made four wayward geometric, architectural sculptures with lively sinter engobes, and several other works that could still be many different things. A series of intense, thought-provoking pieces in pigmented clay turns wombs into butterflies (or butterflies into wombs) linking life and death, the physical and the spiritual, through personal memories and narratives – like many of her works.
