Lucas Lenglet

A series of hollow legs, some only slightly larger than life, others big enough to resemble remnants of giant ancient statues. Especially the large ones have been finely built for their size, just a ceramic skin on a flesh-and-blood limb that has long gone, the vigour and strength of bones and muscles reduced to a vulnerable shell. Lucas Lenglet closely modelled the pieces on his own right leg, but he gave it no foot, no hip, no ability to stand, walk, run, kick or turn. The functionless legs are accompanied by a series of irregular spheroids, their unfinished surface strained from inner tension. Hanging from the wall at gut height, dark and dirty like disturbing truths, they convey a physicality the legs no longer possess. Raw and powerful, a visceral blend of barely contained creativity and anger, Lenglet caught the works in the middle of some fearsome transformation.
