Sara Möller attacks the clay with fists, knees and elbows, her knuckles raw from the violent blows. She needs this force to translate the imprint her fingers would leave on smaller works into traces on the 1.80-meter sculpture she’s creating at EKWC. It also allows her to express some strong emotions; it seems impossible to make tender art these days. And yet, Möller captures beauty in the battered clay. Working organically, without a preconceived plan, she builds up a single figure shouldering a large jar, still evoking the fountain she originally intended to make. A suggestion of many hands helping to carry the load gives the sculpture an upward impulse that combines with hints of falling water to evoke a cyclic flow. Hollow spaces suggest something missing, and a sense of urgency mingles with joy and freedom in the common effort to hold up this precious, precariously tilting burden.
