To Bel Ysoh, white it is the colour of a false image of self. It represents the expectations people project onto you, the judgements, preconceptions, lazy interpretations. It is also the person you pretend to be, to please perhaps, to survive, to hide…Ysoh came to EKWC to explore this white, to experiment with glazes; materialise the skin she painted. Tests on small heads were promising, and a tile mural had the same desolate feel as the drawings. And then something happened. She felt connected. A shooting star passed over her head. Ysoh set the colour white aside and moved in a new direction. One fascinating result is a large head with the serene expression of deep meditation while the skull seems to glow with intense emotions. Blue ears have been glued on, as if the organs were missing or had to be replaced to allow the person to listen.
