Isolde Venrooy

Isolde Venrooy (NL) researched ways to integrate text in her work: a “button-text-system”, buttons that can form texts, to be displayed on relatively large surfaces such as walls and “text-plates”, a continuation of a long-term artistic experiment with ceramics and sentences. Venrooy experimented with a variety of clays, CNC milling on leather hard clay, and tried out new glaze formulas. Venrooy also worked on MAGIC. A series of ceramic magic sticks, made of black clay colored with glaze – either in well-known straight forms, or as winding spirals. Some enlarged or fairly tiny, some provided with mechanics that pulse, shake, and rotate. MAGIC examines how we transform our perception of a lived reality through imagination, ritual, and speculation.
