Kate Moore (NL/AU) is a composer. After a pilgrimage of six weeks - researching identity and heritage and its relation to landscapes - Moore developed an alphabet inspired by the year rings of trees. With this alphabet, she translated the names of trees that people from all over the world named as their favorite. These porcelain “memory rings” can be played and will be part of an automated musical instrument, for which Moore will write the compositions.
Inspired by the fossilization of trees into stone, and as a commemoration to the harrowing Australian bushfires, Moore also created a ghost forest. Capturing the form of branches by dipping them in casting clay, and reduction firing them, she created ghostly transparent forms to mark where the branches once were.
