Majda Vidakovic (RS) has always been fascinated with the concept of leftovers - traces of what's left behind. Amongst other materials, such as wood, glass, used bricks and rocks, she has been collecting paper pulp packaging boxes. These materials reminded her of the sculptures, monuments, and Brutalist architecture that still exist as "leftovers" of former Yugoslavia. Vidakovic used these materials as a mold to transform something fragile into something solid. But how do you make a mold out of a mold? The mold needed to be in many parts to be able to release the cast and to prevent cracks during the drying process. Using plaster would have made the mold too complex and heavy to handle. It was decided to use a CNC-milled Styrofoam press-in-mold, created in our Fablab.
