Milou van Ham

After a couple of weeks at EKWC, artist Milou van Ham is ready to go home. Nothing works out the way she expected, the idea of weaving with clay isn’t leading anywhere, none of the tests are any good, until she starts experimenting with liquid porcelain. A maze of intricately interwoven lines, a flat donut of words with a hole in the middle so the damn thing can shrink. Quick and Dirty: a phrase like a mantra, follow the artist’s hand, feel your way inside. Then her friend Lizan Freijsen dies and new words express an essential truth: Life and Death. Written in Fragile Porcelain, letters blending with supporting structures in lace-like sketches, different directions of anger and grief. There’s a series in plastic Porcelain, pastel frosting without a cake, Connected - Disconnected, the words encircling each other. Whole and Broken, Order and Chaos, all constructed with the utmost care.
