Andrew Burton (UK) is interested in the landscape – how it is formed, and how it’s used today. Burton got fascinated by the mixture of natural and non-natural landscapes in the Province Brabant. Almost every morning, before starting to work, he took his bike and cycled around, taking pictures as source material. In creating his geomorphic landscapes Burton let the clay form itself with minimal interactions, such as pulling it through a slab roller or collecting the leftover scrapings of clay of the extruder. And combined these with geometric or more detailed forms for which he collaborated with our Fablab. The most unexpected discovery came through a reduction firing of the red-firing clay Burton brought with him from the UK, giving it a unique aubergine-like color.
