Jonas Vansteenkiste (BE) returned for a second residency with a new approach to making the most out of the residency. He aimed to experiment and learn as much as possible, to create only parts of the work, enabling him to finish the pieces after his residency. Vansteenkiste worked on many different projects, amongst others: 1. Pedigree explores the notion of houses as containers of memories, with support from Werktank Leuven and C2L3PLAY. Vansteenkiste was given access to a databank of 3D-scanned real houses. He selected houses that are related to his family which were 3D printed in ceramics. 2. Subdurmal is a series of sculptures where Vansteenkiste explores the relationship between architecture and the body. Some of the sculptures show small ceramic elements in the form of keyholes referring to the personal life of the artist. The press-in molds to create the arms were cast in plaster from real-life models. 3. Ruins, questioning the place of ruins in our society and the human urge for everything to be fixed, to have a function. Vansteenkiste proposes that ruins, just like churches can be places for remembering, for contemplation.
