Karin Bruers

The first inhabitant of Oisterwijk to have a residency at EKWC, writer, comedian and social entrepreneur Karin Bruers looked to reduce the carbon footprint of the benches made by her Social Sofa company. She set out to make her own tiles to decorate the benches rather than to import glass mosaic from Italy or China. During her residency, Bruers discovered the wealth of colours she can obtain with different glazes, and the possibility to create more organic shapes to form the mosaics. The prototype – on show at EKWC – has attracted interest from various companies, and plans to set up a mosaic production at Social Sofa are underway.
