Sunyoung Oh

Sunyoung Oh (KR) is a painter and ceramicist who is inspired by nature, sound, air, and scent from historical collections and places. At EKWC, she made a series of slip-cast vases with hand-modeled details to be shown as cabinet sets. The sets have been hand-painted with decorations of trees and natural scenes to create the impression of a wider landscape. To Oh, decorating the porcelain vases not only emphasizes their white surface but also serves as a three-dimensional sketchbook to express time and space. In a sense, the images are an extension of her experience as a painter on large canvases, embracing motion, depth, and gestures.
