The European Ceramic Work Centre (EKWC) is an international artist-in-residence and research centre for ceramics. Every year, we welcome more than 60 artists, designers and architects from the Netherlands and abroad, who spend three months at the EKWC working intensively with clay. These residencies lead to technical innovations and remarkable results that can be seen worldwide. The EKWC combines the leading technical knowledge of our advisors with high-quality facilities and an open culture in which recipes, processes, and discoveries are freely shared. This makes the center a unique place to work.

We are currently looking for a ceramics advisor (24 hours per week).

What will you be doing?

You will join the team that guides and supports residents throughout their work period and the entire ceramic process. You will have an advisory role: you will collaborate with residents and explore ways for them to realize their artistic ambitions. What options do they have and what are the risks? You will demonstrate techniques, answer questions, and anticipate potential bottlenecks in the creative process.

Together with your colleagues, you will devise unorthodox solutions to complex challenges and monitor the progress of sixteen residents simultaneously. In addition, you will contribute to research projects and development programs that not only benefit the residents or the EKWC, but also contribute to the broader development of ceramics, with a focus on sustainability, knowledge, and innovation.

Your profile
You are energetic, driven, curious, and you know how to get things done. You have a higher professional education (HBO) level of working and thinking and at least 10 years of demonstrable professional experience with ceramics across the board, including working on and supervising large-scale projects. Preferably, you have worked with artists or designers before and feel at home in a dynamic, international artistic environment.

You are a committed, coaching advisor who knows how to inspire professionals with your in-depth technical knowledge and inquisitive attitude. If you and your colleagues don’t know something, you find out through trial and error. You think in terms of possibilities and solutions, and are open to experimentation. Patient and stress-resistant, you guide residents from a wide variety of backgrounds in carrying out their plans. Their original ideas, unexpected questions, and technical challenges motivate you.

What do we offer?

  • A job in an international, creative, and inspiring environment.
  • A dynamic and versatile position with room for your own input and initiative.
  • A 24-hour-a-week position with the prospect of long-term employment.
  • Travel allowance in accordance with our travel expense policy.
  • Depending on seniority, sector knowledge, and work experience, we offer a salary between €3,305 and €5,694 gross per month (full-time).
