Outstanding facilities, a dedicated team of technical advisers, and thirteen weeks to work with complete focus on an ambitious artistic or research project in the field of ceramics: that is EKWC Classic. Professionals from all creative disciplines can now apply for a residency for the period 2027–28.
Your application
Your application comprises:
1. A fully completed application form
2. A project description including your research question (to be filled in on the application form)
3. A brief motivation statement (to be filled in on the application form)
4. Your CV (as a PDF attachment)
5. Your portfolio of recent work (as a PDF attachment)
We warmly invite original proposals that are challenging – both artistically and technically – for you as well as for EKWC. This calls for an ambitious workplan, with a strong concept and an experimental approach. What do you want to research, experiment with or achieve during those thirteen weeks? A residency at EKWC is a major investment for both parties, so what makes your application urgent? In your motivation statement, you can link your workplan to your practice, your field of work, or broader themes.
You don’t have to save the world – though you’re welcome to try – but why is taking part in this residency important to you? Can you explain how it might benefit your creative and professional development?
We don’t welcome applications that have been co-written with AI.
Admission requirements
The first requirement for eligibility for the EKWC Classic programme is an academic qualification and at least two years of independent, professional work experience since completing your degree. If you completed a master’s degree after your bachelor’s degree, the years spent on your master’s degree do not count towards your work experience.
The second requirement is the submission of a complete application via the online application form. The selection committee assesses applications on the basis of artistic quality within the applicant’s own field and the social, artistic or technical urgency of the proposal. The committee also considers the feasibility of the plan and the extent to which EKWC’s knowledge, expertise and facilities are essential to achieving the intended development goals.
The third and final step is the payment of the registration fee.
Additional provisions
EKWC does not have separate facilities for creatives working as duos or residents who collaborate in any other way. All applications are individual; if you are accepted, you pay individually and will be allocated your own flat and studio.
EKWC Classic is open to accepting returning residents, but you must be able to clearly demonstrate how a second stay will actively contribute to your professional practice.
Residents are responsible for their own visa applications. If the period for your visa conflicts with the residency period, please get in touch. We will be glad to help you find a solution.
Selection procedure
All applications that meet the admission requirements will be presented to an eight-member selection committee. This consists of four EKWC staff members and four external members. The external members comprise museum professionals, curators, artists and lecturers with diverse backgrounds. The composition of the committee changes every two years.
For this application round, the committee will select a maximum of 45 residents. In doing so, it will also aim to strike a good balance between Dutch and international participants, their professional backgrounds, gender and age. Based on our experience, a group that is as diverse as possible is extremely valuable for mutual exchange.
Diversity and Inclusion
EKWC attaches great importance to equal opportunities and strives to create an open, inclusive, and equitable environment in which everyone can thrive. We warmly encourage people of all ages, social and ethnic backgrounds, cultures and physical abilities to apply.
EKWC is accessible to people with disabilities, and all facilities are wheelchair-accessible. If you require any additional assistance or support, please do not hesitate to contact us so that we can discuss the options available.
